Daisy’s Dream – Charity in Reading
Microsoft 365 Migration case study: In the current unprecedented working environment that has been brought about by COVID-19, an IT solution which provides the ability for flexible working has become essential for any business. This case study explores how Microsoft 365 enhanced the productivity and collaboration for a Berkshire-based charity.
Daisy’s Dream – Background
Established in 1996, Daisy’s Dream is a professional support service-based charity, responding to needs of children and families who have been affected by life-threatening illnesses or bereavement. Daisy’s Dream work largely in the Berkshire region but have recently been able to expand to offer their services in Cheshire East.
When MFG took on the IT for Daisy’s Dream, it was apparent – like many organisations – that the existing setup was inefficient and outdated. The setup at the time was powered by Windows 7 and Server 2008, which MFG immediately identified as a problem, as both were due to go end of life in the coming year. Once an operating system goes end of life and is no longer supported by updates, users’ PCs become more exposed to security risks. This was evidently a concerning issue for Daisy’s Dream as the confidentiality of their customer’s data is of upmost importance.
Furthermore, the old setup was restricting and did not provide a long-term and effective solution for the charity to grow.
Sarah Long, Finance Manager explained: “Due to what we do as a charity, the therapeutic workers rely heavily on face to face communication, we needed to explore new way of communicating such as Teams video calling with Microsoft 365.”
The consultation & solution: Microsoft 365 Migration
During the consultation phase, it was widely agreed that upgrading the organisation’s operating system to Windows 10 was necessary. MFG explained this would be the best solution for Daisy’s Dream’s requirements since the power of Windows 10 would enable users to take full advantage of the enhanced collaboration and productivity tools that Microsoft 365 offers. This upgrade also enabled Daisy’s Dream to go full cloud, eliminating the need for a server and saving costs.
Sarah explained “The process of receiving the quote was great, everything was very clear with a comparison of costs explained with the benefits we would be receiving for the costs.”
MFG are proud to work alongside numerous local charities and subsequently the team have extensive knowledge and experience in supporting businesses within this sector. As a Microsoft Certified Silver Partner, MFG have in-depth knowledge about Microsoft licenses, enabling charities to be able to utilise Microsoft’s produce suite at a discounted rate.
The Microsoft 365 migration
The MFG Projects team developed a plan to efficiently migrate all Daisy’s Dreams users over to Microsoft 365, ensuring minimal disruption.
“During the migration Chris and Jason were so helpful and patient with us clearly explaining the steps they would be doing whilst working around us. The few adjustments we had to make were straightforward as MFG communicated with us early about any possible interruptions.”
Since the migration, Daisy’s Dream have directly benefited from the flexibility and improved communication and collaboration that comes with Microsoft 365. Daisy’s Dream’s day-to-day operation has been revolutionised thanks to Microsoft’s collaborative Modern Workplace Solution features such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, allowing staff the capability to work remotely and carry out the vital work they do.
Sarah added; “Before lockdown we were based in the office, if we hadn’t of made the decision to Migrate to 365 before Lockdown hit it would have been very difficult. Now we have the additional bonus of flexible working, with our team working from both home and in the office.”
