A Microsoft 365 Migration case study: FLB is an independent firm of Chartered Accountants in Berkshire. FLB have built a strong reputation on their ability to deliver proactive, commercially focused, tax efficient advice on business structure and growth.
By nature, FLB’s requirement for robust IT systems and support is paramount for business continuity. MFG have been working with FLB since 2015 and during that time have introduced a number of new technologies to support them with achieving their own business goals.
The Problem: Legacy Hosted Exchange Platform
FLB were on a legacy Hosted Exchange platform which did not allow for integration with other Microsoft services such as Teams and One Drive. Accountancy has moved on considerably in recent years and with a team working remotely across a range of different devices, FLB needed a solution that allowed for better collaborative working.
The Solution: Microsoft 365 Migration
By migrating to Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), FLB’s email now lives in Microsoft’s secure cloud-based environment that is continually updated to the latest version and offers a range of backup and security features.
The new Microsoft 365 solution allows FLB staff, partners and associates the added-bonus of Microsoft’s collaborative Modern Workplace Solutions such as group conversations and video calls via Teams and secure file sharing via SharePoint and OneDrive – and furthermore – enjoy the latest versions of traditional Office applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
MFG’s senior consultants met with key members of the FLB team to discuss Microsoft 365 in greater depth, from the migration strategy, right through to getting the most out of the technology in every-day working life. As a Microsoft Certified Silver Partner, MFG worked with FLB to choose the right Microsoft 365 plan, that aligned their business needs with their IT needs.
MFG’s projects team designed a plan to safely move all mailboxes from the hosted environment to Microsoft 365. On the day of migration, a team of MFG Engineers set up the Microsoft 365 suite across a number of arranged devices. After that, users could sign in and access their email as before, whilst also enjoying a new library of features and collaborative working tools.
Since migrating to Microsoft 365, FLB have also found they are in a stronger position when it comes to integrating their systems with other 3rd party SaaS providers such as CRM systems and accountancy software.
FLB identified the need for their email to be integrated into their CRM system to ensure all communication are captured at source. The CRM system FLB implemented is Senta, an accounting industry specific product. However, they reviewed a number of applications including Hubspot and Salesforce, each offering integration with Microsoft 365.
The flexibility of Microsoft 365 has allowed FLB to make decisions that best suit their business rather than being limited to those products that worked with a hosted or server based email solution. Furthermore, key services would still be available in case of a disaster or outage on a local server.
